CH07 Shell Chair
Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son - 1963
The Shell Chair’s floating lightness is achieved through its wing-like lines and the arches of its tapered legs. The curved shells of the chair’s signature seat and back are crafted from compression-molded veneer and upholstered, cradling the user in generous comfort. The front legs are crafted from one piece of veneer and the back leg from another, resulting in a uniquely stable and beautiful form. The Shell Chair is a clear symbol of Hans J. Wegner’s belief that a chair should have no back side, but rather be beautiful from all angles.
Seat and back is made from form-pressed hardwood laminates in beech, oak, smoked oak or walnut. Finishes include lacquer, colour, or oiled. The front legs are made of one piece of continuous laminated wood, the back leg from another. Upholstered in fabric, haired hide or leather.
