Carmanah Side Table

Lock & Mortice

The Carmanah Side Table was inspired by exploration of materiality. The Carmanah Valley is home to some of the largest old growth trees on Vancouver Island, as well as home to the quarry that yields the black marble. With the materials existing in such close proximity in nature, Lock & Mortice wanted to explore what they could look like together in furniture. The honed marble base is carved from a solid block, creating a statuesque cradle for the fitted hardwood leg.

Materials:

Available in a range of wood options. Stone base options: Chiselled Whistler Granite from Whistler, BC; Chiselled Skagit Granite from a quarry near Hope, BC; Cascade Coral Granite from Enderby, BC; Vancouver Island Sandstone from Valdez Island, BC; Chiselled Grenville Granite from a quarry in Saint-Nazaire, Quebec; and Vancouver Island Black Marble from the Carmanah Valley, BC. Designed and made in Canada. Solid wood is a natural material, characterized by variations in colour, grain patterns, and occasional knots, reflecting the unique characteristics of each tree. Embracing these natural variations adds to the charm and authenticity of your furniture. As a hygroscopic material, wood responds to its environment by absorbing and expelling moisture, which may cause slight dimensional changes over time. Care instructions: Clean spills and stains promptly to prevent permanent marks. Regularly wipe down the entire surface of the furniture to maintain its appearance evenly. Use damp cloth and only mild detergent if necessary, a drop of dish soap for example. Do not use cleaners with ammonia, abrasives or solvents.
