Silkkikuikka Cushion

Maija Isola for Marimekko

“I was dancing with brushes,” said Maija Isola. In 1961, she spent many evenings and nights working in Marimekko’s print factory – painting in gentle, sweeping brushstrokes to the sway of music. Meter upon meter of new patterns emerged. On one of those nights, Silkkikuikka (great crested grebe), a pattern of alluring rhythm and simplicity, saw daylight. Marimekko’s cushion covers are sewn using the whole width of the fabric, and therefore their appearance may vary slightly. Each item is unique.
